Hot Air Balloon Safaris

Fly over masai mara & serengeti with our balloon safaris

Fly Hot Air Balloon Safaris

Hot Air Balloon Safaris rides are exhilarating in any setting. A hot air balloon safari over Masai Mara National Reserve, though, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

We highly recommend that adventurous guests plan to stay at the reserve for at least three days to allow time for this activity along with your other safari activities such as Game Drives, Bush Walks, Village visits, and more.

The Hot Air Balloon flights need to be pre-arranged. Due to the limited space of only 16 passengers in a balloon. But we can do this for you! The balloons can accommodate adults and children, with some limitations.

Children must be at least four years old and must be accommodated by a parent or guardian. We recommend that adults be in good physical condition.

Every flight is different: you might find yourself sailing past eagle chicks in their nests; or above snorting, chortling hippos in their pools. Floating along in silence, you’ll look down on the mosaic of patterns created by galloping zebras, leaping antelope, and browsing buffalo, and migrating wildebeests. A silent observer, high above them, you present no threat to the wildlife.

The ride is normally done early in the mornings at approximately 0630am in time to enjoy the sunrise glow on the distant horizon of the Masai Mara and Serengeti Plains. The good thing about the Mara – Serengeti weather is that it is conducive for balloon rides to be operated daily, throughout the year.

The flight usually lasts approximately one hour and covers anything between 5 and 20 km from launch to landing. The total distance covered is always dependent on the wind conditions on any given day.

The entire excursion from pick up at the camp/lodge to drop off back at the camp or lodge varies from a 4.00 am departure to a 6.00 am departure, depending on the close proximity/location of said camp/lodge.

There is plenty of photographic opportunities on board and also on the ground to & from the balloon excursion including a game drive en route back to your camp/lodge by around 1030am.

We encourage our guests to carry binoculars, cameras, and a “selfie stick’ to use your phone to catch those very fine once-in-a-lifetime moments!

Dressing in layers; a warm Jacket/fleece is best for the transition from the cool, dark early morning to the relatively late morning sun rays. It is normally cool in the early mornings and as you watch and wait for the balloons to be inflated, the chilly morning breeze can be uncomfortable.

Once on board, the heat from burners above makes all around you warm. Trousers, long-sleeved shirts/tops, and closed shoes come in handy in case we need to walk through some grass after landing.
